Luxembourg..
In school days i remember this place as a beautiful scenic environment full of castles and forts.
This is the place where Dutch rule prevails.
People said Luxembourg had nothing and one day would be sufficient. I agree that One day is enough , but it had many things.
We had to start from Brussels at 7:42 train but we missed it the first time and i expected it. Hence we caught the 8:42 train and went peacefully to Luxembourg. I slept thru the whole journey. If you don't sleep you can have amazing view of the fields and nature.
We reached there around 11:45 and got a map from the tourist information and inquired about the return train timings . The tourist map provided everything you need and its very easy. Everything can be covered by just walking and its a small place , where we wont get lost.
We first headed to the Royal Palace. Its a ten min walk from the station and you head right as you come out of the station . We walked the beautiful way and there are plenty of signs on the road in yellow, green to make your walk easy. The view is too good from anywhere and its full of lush green grass. There are a lot of tourists around who come there to enjoy week end and be peaceful .
On the way to the Palace , we saw many attractions. The Palace was a small one when compared to any palace. But I was so happy seeing a guard on duty in the palace , there was one more person in the back side entrance. We went around the palace and took snaps , its a modern palace !!!
Then we walked from the palace into the small streets to a place called Cass mates , which means tunnels which are dark. The tunnels were built in old times long back in 1600's for shelter for soldiers, horses and weapons. It has a fort above it and the walls of the full building are so strong that it has survived world wars , earth quakes and what not! The fort had an amazing view from the top and it was a perfect place for photos but the entrance to it was closed. The Cass mates is actually of two : Petrusse and Bock. The entrance to Bock was closed.
Hence we walked from there to the 3 Tower Castles. All the directions are indicated in the map and since the place was small we could easily reach it . This castle was rather small one but different.
After the view from the castle we walked back to the palace , in front of the palace there was small fare put around with place to sit and have lunch. We had fries (our staple food) and spent some time there.
Then we walked from there to the Petrusse valley. On the way to the valley we saw the National Bibilique Church and then as we walked we saw the Petrusse Cass mates and decided to go in. The entrance is 2 euro and they give a booklet about it which is interesting. We walked into the tunnel , but it was watery and muddy , hence we needed to be careful. The way inside the tunnel was dam dark but there were small lights. We could see the valley from the small holes in the tunnel. The path was not quite long , hence we could manage. Its very easy and we cannot get lost.
Then we traced our way back and out of the tunnel , once outside , we had a becautiful view of the bridge and took some snaps..
Then we walked into the valley thru the small steps and then spent an hour there and just walked around it. Then came back into the city and traced our way back into the station. On the way we had Coffee with Creme... my fav and relaxed.
Once in the station ,we opted for a train that reached Brussels early and hence reached Home again after a lovely trip.
